Where is Hexham?
Hexham is a small market town in beautiful Northumberland. We are in the far north of England close to Hadrian’s Wall. The vibrant city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne is around 20 miles away to the east.
The town is in a fantastic location, set between the Northumberland National Park and the North Pennines National Landscape. The postcode for the centre of Hexham is NE46 1XQ.
Hexham offers lots to do, all year round with Hexham Abbey being our main tourist attraction. We also have good shopping on offer and plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants.
Hexham by train
Hexham Train Station is on the line that runs between the cities of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Carlisle. It’s a lovely journey whether you approach us from the east or west.

Hexham by bus
Buses run direct from Newcastle and Carlisle to Hexham and on from here to local destinations. The Go North East site is the best resource for planning bus travel in the region.
Want to visit Hadrian’s Wall by bus? Check out the AD122 circular route from Hexham. This scenic route runs from Hexham to key Roman sites such as Chesters, Vindolanda, the Roman Army Museum and Housesteads Roman Fort. Rover bus tickets are available allowing visitors to hop off and hop on to make the most of these beautiful and fascinating places.
